Cover for Overseas Dental | Travel Insurance Direct (TID)

Sometimes the logistics of planning a trip can seem a bit like pulling teeth, but once you’re up, up and away the last thing you want ruining your trip is an emergency health drama.

There is nothing worse than those wisdom teeth flaring up when you’re eating your way around Europe or chipping a tooth while on a remote island in Asia without 24/7 access to an emergency line.

What we cover

At TID our policies – The Works, The Basics, and, Annual Multi Trip -  covers you for emergency dental treatment when you're on your trip overseas. There is no cover for dental treatment on our Domestic policy, as this can be covered by Private Health Insurance and sometimes Medicare.

So, if you get a toothache while you're away, you'll be covered up to $1000 per person. Dental treatment is available to anyone on your policy, including children.

Emergency dental cover is limited to $1000 per person per trip for dental treatment expenses that arise from an injury to health natural teeth.

There’s no cover for dental expenses arising from gingivitis, decay, normal wear and tear or the normal maintenance of your dental health and there’s no cover for crowns, caps, whitening, cleaning, scaling or the creation of new dental bridges or dental implants.

For example, while you are in France you crunch down on a toffee and your tooth cracks, the policy can cover you up to $1,000 to see a dentist for treatment, but it won't cover the costs to have a crown.

We may also cover you for loss or damage to dentures or dental prostheses whilst not on your person during your trip as part of your luggage and personal effects cover.

What's not covered?

  • Cosmetic dentistry
  • Dental treatment because of an existing medical condition
  • Dental costs incurred before leaving or returning to Australia. Even if your dental treatment overseas was covered by your policy, the Private Health Insurance Act 2007 prevents us from reimbursing medical and dental treatment costs, in Australia as we are not registered to do so.
