Which Travel Insurance Policy is Right for Me? | Travel Insurance Direct

There are plenty of considerations to be made when deciding on which travel insurance policy will be right for you.

There are considerations to be made when deciding if travel insurance is needed for your next trip.  TID offers a number of options for a variety of travellers.

For example, the Basics plan has a lower level of cover if you don’t need all the extras, whereas the Works is our highest coverage option. For regular travellers, whether for business or pleasure, TID’s Annual Multi-Trip cover is an option to consider.

What travel insurance plans does TID offer?

International travel

The Works and Basics plans are available to any Aussie under 75 years of age taking a single trip overseas, provided you meet our definition of ‘resident’. You can also extend this policy while you are away, provided you’re still within the plan age limit; there hasn't been any change in your health status or personal circumstances since the start of your policy; and you have not nor intend on making a claim.

We offer cover for a number of Existing Medical Conditions. To see if you qualify for coverage under the existing medical conditions section, please see Automatically covered conditions section in the Product Disclosure Statement.

Domestic travel

If you are travelling around Australia, you can purchase the Domestic policy, which is available to travellers under 75 years of age. It’s worth noting that we are not able to provide medical coverage in Australia under the Private Health Insurance Act 2007.

When you take the Domestic plan, you can be covered for Cancellation and additional expenses and Medical evacuation and repatriation for automatically covered existing medical conditions, provided you meet the requirements under the Automatically covered conditions section in the PDS. However, as there is no medical coverage within Australia, you would not be covered for hospitalisation or other medical treatment for any medical conditions.

You can also extend this policy while you are away, provided you still meet the age limit of the selected plan, there hasn't been any change in your health status or personal circumstances since the start of your policy and you have not nor intend to make a claim.

Annual Multi Trip

If you travel regularly over a 12-month period, you can purchase an Annual Multi Trip (AMT) policy. This policy is available to travellers under 75 years of age. Cover includes domestic and international travel for leisure and business. Each trip is covered up to 35 days.

The AMT policy has two options: Single - if you mostly travel on your own or with your dependent children; or Family - if you have a partner who regularly travels, either with you or on their own, and any dependent children. Dependent children cannot travel on their own on an AMT policy.

This policy can only be purchased within 30 days before the start of your period of insurance (start date).

You will be covered for the 43 automatically covered existing medical conditions while on the AMT policy, provided you meet all requirements noted in the PDS.

If you don't meet the requirements, you can purchase the policy, but it will exclude cover for claims arising from or relating to your existing medical conditions, or contact nib Travel Insurance for a medical screening and quote on 1300 410 272.

Keep in mind these options, which you can only purchase for an additional premium at the time you buy your policy:
